Liberal Education and America's Promise--LEAP

AAC&U was founded as the Association of American Colleges in 1915.  Ever since our beginnings, we have been working to answer a guiding question:  What should college education be?  It wasn't the only question we asked, but it was key to our work as an association.

As the 21st century--our second century--approached, we renewed our work to answer just that question.  What resulted became a campaign for 21st-century college learning.

We call that initiative LEAP--Liberal Education and America's Promise.

LEAP begins with a set of essential learning outcomes.  AAC&U took years to work collaboratively with our membership to discover these outcomes.  You can find the history here http://www.aacu.org/leap

Below you will find the essential learning outcomes.  They are a great place to start conversation about what you and your colleagues believe a college education should be for the 21st century.  We believe every student should have a chance to achieve these outcomes, all students, every one--and at every type of institution, in every program of study. That's a great and beautiful vision!

That vision depends equally on the contributions of faculty, all faculty, whatever type of contract or title.  LEAP resources are faculty resources.  For examples, visit LEAP for Instructors.
